How to book a cabin
Rental cabins owned by Wild North can be booked online, send us a Cabin Enquiry Form or call Wild North sales office. Booking online is cheaper than via staff.
The Saturday rule
For the high season (*) wilderness and holiday cabins are rented for 7 days only (from Sat to Sat).
For the low season, the cabins can be rented for shorter periods. Large logging cabins and full-service lodges are also exluded from the Saturday rule.
From the beginning of the first Thursday of May (unless it is a bank holiday), single days and other than Sat-Sat weeks are possible for the high season. Exceptions to this are marked in the cabin details.
(*) High season: From last Sat of June to last Sat of Oct. If the last Saturday of June is the Midsummer weekend, the Saturday rule ends there.
What are the exact hours
The rental period is from 14:00 on the day of arrival to 12:00 on the day of departure. Exceptions to this are marked in the cabin details.
Pricing periods
Wild North cabin prices may vary between different seasons. This is why the rental times are divided into pricing periods. In the cabin price information, the prices are shown for example as basic day and week prices and prices during the hunting season and midsummer. The exact dates for the different pricing periods are on the front page of Cabins. During public holidays – Easter, Midsummer and Christmas – most of the cabins have to be rented for the time period mentioned in the pricing period list.
Last-minute departure discount
Last-minute departure discount refers to new cabin reservations that are made 24 hours or a shorter time before the cabin rental begins. The discount is granted only when booking through the Wild North / Villi Pohjola customer service number (+358 (0) 203 44122). The online system does not give discount.
The discount is 20 % off the cabin rent and the 13 euro service fee will not be charged. The reservation must be paid before retrieving the cabin key. The receipt for the cabin payment has to be displayed at the key collection point. This discount does not apply to reservations that are made earlier or reservations that are altered. Normal booking conditions apply.
Exceptions:
The last-minute departure discount does not apply to Wild North Camping Areas/Outdoor Centers or full-service lodges. The discount does not apply to rental cabins that are reserved elsewhere than through the Wild North customer service number. The last-minute departure discount does not apply to the following cabins: Camping area cabins (Kylmäluoma, Manamansalo, Peurajärvi, cabins at Hossa camping area: Mesikämmen, Karhu, Metsänkuningas, Hunajatassu), cabins in Nuuksio National Park (Oravankolo, Tikankolo), full-service lodges, or if otherwise mentioned in the cabin details.

How to reach Wild North cabins
As most of the cabins are located outside towns and population centres, most secluded in the wilderness, public transportation is generally not available. It is therefore necessary that you have your own transportation. Wild North does not offer transportation services nor information.
How to get the keys
Information regarding cabins keys is provided with the invoice. Guests must present a receipt of a paid invoice in order to receive their keys. Cabins are available for use from 14:00 on the day of arrival to 12:00 on the day of departure. Each cabin contains a book with information about the cabin, its equipment and manuals for using the equipment, as well as information about the surrounding area. For those choosing a basic wilderness cabin we recommend the purchase of a local map.
Please note: when the contact is a person, make sure you contact him/her well in advance to agree a key pick up time.
What do the cabins contain
A rough guide can be seen in the cabin classification section. But read the cabin details for a detailed description. If the cabin information reads, for example, 4+2 people, this means there are 4 beds plus 2 extra sleeping spaces, either an extended bed or the upper bed of a bunk. You will need to bring along your own linen or sleeping bags, groceries, matches, and toiletry items.
Who cleans the cabin
Guests are expected to clean and take care of the cabin during the length of their stay, leaving it tidy so that others may have a pleasant wilderness experience. If the final cleaning is available, at an extra cost, it is mentioned in the cabin details. We hope that you show respect for nature by using our recycling and garbage-collection system.
How to manage with mosquitoes
To adequately prepare for the mosquitoes, gnats and other insects that are a natural part of a Finnish summer, bring along some mosquito spray and insect repellent, incense or outdoor candles, medicated creams, and netted caps. The mosquito season in Lapland lasts from around midsummer to the beginning of August. Wild North takes no responsibility for any discomfort or harm caused by insects.
How to use outside toilets
A part of traditional cabin life is the outhouse. Located in small huts in the cabins´ garden, outhouses typically do not have running water or electricity. And they also serve as nature-friendly compost sites.
How to bathe in the wilderness
Almost every cabin has a sauna for washing. Saunas are either electric or wood-heated, with guests taking responsibility for heating the sauna. Holiday cabins (4-5 pinecones) may also contain a shower.
How to get help
Cabins are often several kilometres away from neighbours and do not come equipped with telephones. For these reasons, we highly recommend taking a mobile phone along for the length of your stay. The cabin´s information book contains relevant contact details for people who can provide assistance should you need it. It is also wise to pack a first aid kit for treating small cuts and injuries. With common sense and the proper supplies, your stay in nature will be safe and memorable.
Fishing permits
When fishing in Finland you have to buy fishing permits and pay pure-fishing fees. If, however, you only intend to ice fish or angle with hook and line there is no need to pay anything, because this is covered by public right of access. Fishing is prohibited, however, in some rapids and channels in salmon and whitefish rivers, and in certain other protected waters.
A person who is 18-64 years old and wishes to practise lure fishing must either obtain a permission from the holder of the fishing right or pay the provincial lure fishing fee. The national fishing management fee must also be paid.
